Historic Quilt & Textile Exhibit

February 27 - March 1

Keeping Warm in the Midwest

February 27-March 1 and March 5-8, open 1:00-6:00pm each day

Join Living History Farms for a look at the textiles and tools used to keep warm during Midwestern winters in the past. This exhibit will feature hand and machine pieced quilts, natural fur lap robes, and other bed coverings from the LHF historic textile vaults. A display of winter artifacts, including a horse-drawn style sleigh, parlor stove, bed warmers, skates, and sleds will provide a back drop for historic winter clothing. Fur and wool coats, gloves and mittens, skirts and shawls highlight Iowans’ determination to fight the winter chills.

Hand-quilters will demonstrate quilting techniques, along with a variety of other textile artists each day. Knitters and crochet artists are invited to bring their own winter projects to relax and work on while chatting at our community maker tables. Don’t know how to crochet or knit? Practice yarn and plenty of helpers will available to get you started on a new winter hobby.

A member-exclusive guided curator tour will take place each day at 4:00pm. The Marketplace Museum Store will also be open for shopping throughout the show.

Supporting Sponsors: StarAnn & Ed Kloberdanz, in memory of Pat Wood
